Follow these 10 steps and you'll be back to your desktop in no time. These instructions assume you are running any version of Ubuntu or Kubuntu.

1. Restart your computer.
2. When GRUB loads press the ESC key.
3. Type "e" for edit.
4. Find the line that reads "kernal....", highlight it and press "e" again.
5. At the end of the line add the following:

rw init=/bin/bash

6. Press Enter.
7. Press "b" to boot.
8. When the system finishes booting type the following:

passwd <username> (where user name equals your login name)

9. Follow the prompts to reset your password.
10. When completed type the following to reboot your computer:

shutdown -r now
